The Freak Jr. meets Tom Cruise?

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Jay: The Titans need a defensive end. They couldn’t get any pressure on opposing QB’s all year long. Remember back to the must win game on Christmas eve, when the Chargers line looked they were playing against a bunch of high schoolers. Yeah, that was embarrassing. I know they signed Jason Babin. Sorry I just wasted your time with that last sentence. I like Tennessee to pick DE from Florida Carlos Dunlap. Think…Freak Jr. I know he has had some off the field issues, but he is an amazing athlete. I think he has what it takes to play at this level and without his DUI, Dunlap may have been a top 10 pick. (and he still might because nothing says Oakland like a Freak athlete who has problems) Seriously though, he can learn the NFL ropes under Kearse and help out that weak-ass Tennessee D-Line.

Will: Tenn. Titans Round 1; Pick 16- DE Jason Pierre-Paul, South Florida

I have two words for you Jay; Jamaal Anderson (the joke of a DE, not the Dirty Bird). Expect the same level of wasted physical stature and ability with Dunlap. Dunlap was busted for a DUI the week before the SEC Championship game (obviously a team player) and has the intensity and motor of a Hello-Kitty Big Girls Kite set. The Titans have a solid group of young d-lineman but need an F-14 Tomcat of a pass rusher flown by Tom Cruise after he finishes snorting half a kilo of Columbian Bam-bam while trying to rip the succubus out of Oprah’s body again.

Pierre-Paul is raw, but with Fischer and the former Freak, Javon Kearse, there to tutor him, this guy will become one of the most dynamic defensive playmakers in the league.  Forget the backflip bonanza at the combine, and watch this guy get after it every single down. His pass rushing abilities will immediately improve the Titans 31st ranked pass defense. He will punish QB’s from their blind side and his speed tailing the weak side ground game will force teams to run at him. With some coaching and improved strength, Pierre-Paul will quickly be able to take on the double team at the point of attack, opening up things for the rest of the very athletic guys in that front 7. The only double Dunlop would take down for his teammates is in shot glass.

The Jacksonville Tebows select…

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Jay: Alright this is the ultimate “hangover” pick for me. I was so jacked up for the Bills pick yesterday and now we’re picking for the Jags and outside of Northern Florida, no one really cares. Yesterday I went and absolutely dominated the sh*t out of Bills fans, making FWG and his beloved Bills a powerbottom at best. As for the pick, I can see the Jags trading out of this spot. IF YOUR LISTENING JACKSONVILLE, DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT PICK TEBOW IN THE 1st ROUND. Listen, I love Tebow, I own a Super T shirt and I rock it proudly but picking a player just because he may, and I use that term loosely, help you sell tickets is not a great thought process for making your team better. The Jags need to spend their 1st round pick on a pass rusher. They only totaled 14 sacks last year, which ranked them dead last in the NFL. If I were the Jags, I would pick DE Derrick Morgan from Georgia Tech. I think he has the potential to be a great player in the NFL. His 6′3, 266 frame, and blazing speed are Freeney-esque, and his excellent footwork, motor, and athleticism mean he will be a dominate pass rusher for years to come.

FWG: You know, lets put the Tim Tebow talk aside and address Jacksonville’s needs on defense, particularly on D-line.  My recommendation is to draft the DE from South Florida, and sure if this was a year or two ago, I’d be saying George Selvie.  But never before in my life have I seen draft stock plummet the way that Selvie’s did.  So now here I am, March of 2010, and the DE from South Florida I’m recommending is Jason Pierre-Paul.  Which is a sound pick, given Pierre-Paul’s combination of size and speed, and by my evaluation: tremendous hand work.  It also proves another point, just how cruel a mistress the NFL is, one day you’re hot, the next day your dog shit, Selvie.

The Pete Carroll Era begins…

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Jay: The Seahawks had such a disappointing season last year. With Pete Carroll in town, I expect the Seahawks to have a much better year. It also helps that they play in the weakest division in football and the only good team (Arizona) just lost their Hall of Fame QB. This is the Seahawks division to win. With that being said I think the Seahawks will draft QB Sam Bradford from the University of Oklahoma. Bradford was a lock to be the first overall pick until he had a serious shoulder injury that forced him to miss almost the whole season. I just think Pete Carroll will want to bring in his own QB and breed him to do what he wants. There are a lot of questions surrounding Bradford (which is why I have Clausen ahead of him). Can Bradford play under center? Tim Tebow is getting crucified over this and Bradford played in the same style offense. Always in the gun and always with 4 or 5 receiver sets. Don’t get me wrong, I think Bradford will be a very good NFL QB and with Matt Hasselbeck turning 35 in September, it is time for the Seahawks to start building for the future. I like Hasselbeck to start for one more year and at the same time usher in the young gun from Oklahoma.

FWG: The Seahawks, in their neon-green glory, are about to welcome Pete Carroll (back) to the NFL. And good news for him, the learning curve isn’t that steep. Last year’s season was lackluster, and they are playing in the weakest division in pro football. On that point, I agree with my counterpart Jay. That being said, it would be a sound investment to draft a QB as the heir apparent to Hasselbeck, but if the Favre’s of the world have taught us anything it’s that longevity is in the eye of the beholder and that you can find “plug and play” QB’s to get you to the playoffs. In my eyes, you take a guy like Jason Pierre-Paul or Derrick Morgan, who fills no specific need, but the latter is a 6’6 272lb DE running a 4.7. The former is the newest product of USF, who can deliver on the hype that George Selvie can’t. You turn them loose, ala Dwight Freeney, and you have an impact player on defense, athletic enough to be a game changer. It’s a much safer pick than say Clausen or Bradford, and Carroll has a lot of freedom (and no where to go but up) since taking over the head spot.
