With the 9th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, The future LA Bills select…

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

FWG: Let me start first by saying, I am an unabashed Bills fan. Yes, my beloved Bill-ski’s, THE premiere team of the early ’90’s. Well 11 seasons and not a playoff birth to speak of, here I am, predicting the draft, when that’s really the last thing on my mind.  I should be predicting that the team ends up in Toronto or in L.A. once old man Wilson dies, and his legacy is sold to the highest bidder.  The bottom line is, this off season, the Bills need O-line, and with the recent departure (ehem, retirement) of Brad Butler, their case is almost desperate.  But in keeping with the theme of giving up, and with the Bills moving to a 3-4 defense next year, I say screw the “needs” (like, um, a playoff game) and take a nose tackle.  With the smart money saying there are no premiere DT/NT’s left, I’m gonna go out on a limb, and say take THE fat black guy.  Terrence Cody, my 2010 NFL Draft pick for the Buffalo Bills.  God save me.

Jay: Oh FWG, it pains me to listen to Bills fans. You are correct on the idea that they need an OT. Last year they lost Jason Peters to Philly and now the retirement of Butler. If somehow Clausen or Bradford fall to them, I think they will jump at that but by no means is THE FBG going to be picked here. It is clear to me that he ate his way out of the first round. He weighed in at 370 lbs. at the SR Bowl. I know he got down to 356 lbs. at the combine but you and me both know that one weekend in Buffalo with 15 buckets of chicken wings and BOOM! 380 lb. T-Cody is back. I think the Bills should draft OT Bruce Campbell from Maryland. He is an athletic freak (At 317 lbs. he ran a 4.78 40). He should be able to help out the Bills instantly. They need to rebuild the OL because I don’t care if Jim Kelly is behind center, with no time, no QB will be successful.

UPDATE!!!

Chris: I almost threw up in my mouth

Jay: haha

Chris: On the other hand, Cody could stimulate the Buffalo fast food economy

NFL Combine: Standouts and Stand-downs….

Monday, March 1st, 2010

The combine is supposed to be the time when prospects can drastically improve their draft stock. Let me make one thing clear, I’m not a huge fan of the NFL combine. Great, your left tackle can run a 4.4 40 and has a vertical of 45 in. but can’t protect your franchise QB from a JV defensive end. It is nice to see where guys test out and if they’re in shape but too many important people live and die with the workout results. I’m not an NFL scout so it doesn’t matter what I think so here are some numbers that stood out to me:

OT Bruce Campbell – 4.85 40, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? At 6’6, 314 lbs., Campbell locked himself into the top 8. There is no way Al Davis screws this one up… Is there?

OT Trent Williams – 4.88 40, 34.5 vertical, I think Williams locked himself into the 1st round too. There is a good chance that 5 OL get taken in the 1st round, Williams being one of them.

RB CJ Spiller – 4.37 40, locked himself in as the top RB come April, he is electric every time he touches the ball. Look for him to be pick in the mid-teens of the 1st round.

RB Jahvid Best – 4.35 40, Best ran very well. (Obviously) There are still some questions about his health but I think he has a shot of getting pick by the Chargers at the end of the first round. (Will definitely not make it through the 2nd round)

TE Dorin Dickinson (6’4, 226 lbs.) – 4.40 40, 24 reps in the Bench press, 43.5 vertical, Dickinson worked out great but is still undersized for a TE. It will be very interesting to see where he gets picked in the 2010 NFL Draft

RB Dexter McCluster – 4.58 40, McCluster ran much slower than I expected. I figured he would be right up there with Best and Spiller. I think his draft stock dropped a little this weekend.

Listen, I know they are just numbers but a lot of NFL teams will fall in love with a player just because of their performance at the combine. I’m a big proponent for on-field play but I’m also not drafting anyone this April. A few guys dramatically increased their April pay day and that is great to see but will they be able to play like their numbers show? Just ask Al Davis how he feels about drafting JaMarcus Russell? He will still tell you that he can throw a football 100 yards from his knees? Ya, well so can Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite but I didn’t see him at the NFL combine. Jerry Rice ran a 4.7 40 at the combine…Let’s just say he turned out to be a pretty good player. In the end, take it with a grain of salt and hope that your team isn’t run by someone who loves workout warriors.

Your time is up JaMarcus, get off your knees, your not fooling us anymore

Jay: Oh the Raiders. Finally FWG, we get to predict what is going through Al Davis’ head. Which is a waste of time because he doesn’t have normal brain function.  He’s like Rambo, “What we call hell, he calls home”.  The Raiders are in need of a lot of things. They NEED a QB. Sorry Jamarcus, your time is up. I can’t believe it has lasted this long. I don’t care that you can throw a football 100 yards from your knees, I really don’t. You tricked Al Davis into thinking that the only thing that mattered with a QB was his arm strength. And Bruce Gradkowski? Enough said on that… The only problem is that at pick 8, I don’t think there is a QB worth taking. They also need a lot of help along the offensive line. The Raiders SHOULD (because they absolutely will not) pick OT Anthony Davis from Rutgers. At 6-6, 325 lbs., Davis is an absolute monster. He really excels in run blocking, which the Raiders need help in. He is very athletic for his size and will challenge Russell Okung for first OT taken in April.

(Look for Oakland to select a physical freak like Carlos Dunlap or Taylor Mays.) I’m just saying…

FWG: I’m with you on the Jamarcus Russell trash talk.  Who care’s if he can throw a football 100 yards?  So can I, ever heard of a NERF Vortex? Or did they ban recess at your school during the mid to late 90’s.  With Oakland sitting at pick 8, presumably Clausen, Bradford (the only two desirable or franchise-esque QB’s will be gone.  They need to address a major hole at O-Line, but I’m betting Anthony Davis is gone, so the next available run blocker, Bruce Campbell gets taken. I’ll put the bias out there though, I hope the Raiders muff this one and Campbell drops to Buffalo.
