FWG’s friend stops by to pick for San Fran and talk about his love for David Carr… (he happens to be a die hard 49ers fan)

Jay: Today we get to pick for the 49ers. This is a no brainer for me. A lot of people want to see the sexy pick here of CJ Spiller. To which I ask why? You have Frank Gore? And you used a relatively high pick last year on Glen Coffee. I think they are set at RB for now. Maybe in the 4th round you take a shot on a slightly risky guy with big playmaking ability but not in the first few rounds. The good thing is that the 49ers pick again at 17. They should be able to get two very good players to help out their team next year. I like them to look for a safety at pick 17, possibly Taylor Mays. But for pick 13, San Fran has to pick an OL to play right tackle. Cleveland just signed Tony Pashos (the 49ers starter who was injured last year) and Adam Snyder allowed 9.5 sacks last year as his replacement. I would draft Trent Williams from Oklahoma. Williams is very athletic and could give some stability to the right side of the 49ers line.

FWG: When I saw that we had to defend our choices for the 49ers 2010 NFL Draft pick, I thought to myself “I am literally without opinion on this.”  Nobody cares about (my favorite team) the Bills, and frankly I don’t give a shit about the 49ers.  But I knew someone who did.  Former D-III standout Mark Zappia.  Which is why I turn this pick over to him.

MZ: As a die hard niner fan, let me start off by saying that if the recent David Carr signing is the 49ers big offseason move, then book your Hawaii vacation early  for December of 2010 because that’s when you can catch the stars of the 49ers in person. All I keep hearing about is all the action in Seattle and Arizona. There are reports today that Seattle is interested in Mcnabb/Kolb. So the niners decide to pick up professional all pro back up David Carr….hmmm

With that being said, I like that the niners are sticking with Alex Smith. I do not want to see another vetaran player signed (Mcnabb) for a ridiculous amount of money which would then lead to possible mid-season benching (cough, ex-Bill Nate Clements).

All and all I feel the 49ers have a lot of bright spots from 2009. Last year they finished top 10 in rushing defense yards allowed per game (6th, but who’s counting). However, they finished below average in pass defense at 21st. It’s a huge sign of weaknesses when a team finished 3rd in total sacks, but still ended up 21st in pass defense (cough cough cough Nate Clements). You would love that fact big man…not the lines fault!

I think the offense showed some real nice signs last year towards the end of the year. Frank Gore rushed for a stellar 1200 yards while missing a few games with his ankle injury. His back up Glen Coffee (Rookie) will be a great number two in the up coming years (as he was a rookie and also was hit with the injury plague). I strongly feel a full season with Alex Smith at the helm mixed in with a full preseason with Crabtree should be the most interesting matchup for 2010. The team will depend on these two to gel this year because teams will be bringing 8 in the box to contain Gore’s rushing abilties. Also, throw in Vernon Davis, teams will be forced to send a safety over the top on him. Leaving a lot of sexy 1-1 matchups for Crabtree….

Niners have two first round picks and they should utilize the #13, 17 pick by picking up a DB/ S/ WR

Since the top ten picks should strongly favor offensive & defensive lineman. I like the Niners chances of picking up one of the two top personnel in their respected positions….

S Earl Thomas Texas, CB Joe Haden Florida

I would not be surprised if they ended up taking an OT in Anthony Davis out of Rutgers either to compliment Joe Staley.

Personally, I would love to see Golden Tate out their at the flanker position to compliment Crabtree….That’s all, what do I know, I only played D-3 football.
