FWG: I don’t know where Jay stands on this thing, but I’m sure somewhere down the line we’ll get into a McShay-Kiper battle for FWG Supremacy. I outweigh him by 80lbs and I possess the reflexes of an infant tiger, so hedge your bets on who wins that one. Anyway, when I heard the Browns were on the clock my first question was, “Can they draft a new owner?” Clever, and topical. That’s my humor. Honestly though, hasn’t this team just about been mismanaged into irrelevancy. I want to believe in the Browns, but they need to get their head out of their own ass, and according to my good friend Ronald Reagan, and his iron-clad, more consistent than gravity-theory of “Reagan-omics” that starts from the top down.
That being said, the looming question is “To QB or NOT to QB.” Well, I say not, but that doesn’t mean I put any faith in Brady Quinn, or those crummy EAS commercials. (I pray for the day he gets cut, so I can finally put my “Now I’m Done” blog title to good use.) Nope, the Browns don’t need a QB, they need a strong defense, and they can start by drafting Joe Haden from Florida in the 2010 NFL Draft. Haden is by all accounts an NFL Ready shutdown corner. Now while I am a firm believer in drafting linemen, and building a strong defense there, a leader in the secondary who will limit big plays and passing attacks is something I will endorse, which is why the Browns should take Joe Haden in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Although, it is really a moot point on this year’s draft, because they are still 2 or 3 years away from playoff (let alone Super Bowl) contention. To be at that point they need a franchise QB, a solid running game, and a defense that doesn’t give up the big play.
Now I’m Done.
Jay: Well played Sir…BUT… I am going to have to disagree with you. They have to give your boy Brady Quinn one more chance. They have already paid him so much money, I think they owe it to themselves and BQ one last shot. That being said, I am not on the Joe Haden bandwagon. He is a great player, there is no doubt about that, but to me he is more a mid 1st round pick, not a top 10 guy. Plus, other than Revis from the Jets, when has a CB come right out of college and been a shut down guy? Can you imagine Haden trying to cover a guy in man coverage for 15 seconds down field because the Browns front 7 can’t get near the QB? Haden may be a great player but could look awful in Cleveland. I have the Browns picking ILB Rolando McClain from Alabama. The Browns really need an ILB. Right now they have D’Qwell Jackson, who is okay at best, but he was hurt last year and this could be his last year with the team due to free agency. McClain is a perfect fit for Cleveland. They run a 3-4 defense, the same style he played in at Alabama. I also think that he has an edge because he played under Nick Saban (Saban is known for running an NFL style defense). Oh, did I mention he is 6’4, 256 pounds of chiseled rock and he runs like a safety? He is an extremely talented player who the Browns should seriously consider taking.
(+1 for Jay)
