FWG: Obviously there is a need at offensive line, specifically OT for the Chiefs, which is why I think they should take Russell Okung in the 2010 NFL Draft, but as of this morning, with Bills OT Brad Butler retiring, the likelihood of the Bills trading up from the #9 slot is ever more likely. If that’s the case, then the Bills end up taking either Okung or Davis to fill needs on their O-line, which would leave the Chiefs in the drivers seat, with the Bills scrambling not only for offensive tackles but in a competition with the Seahawks for a shot at Clausen or Bradford (Buffalo Bills: Seeking a franchise QB since ‘94). If the Chiefs play it right, they could walk away taking a high draft pick (possibly maneuvering for a shot at Berry), while also setting up a killing for next years NFL Draft. Bottom line: Chiefs should take Russell Okung in the 2010 NFL Draft, if they don’t I hope they end up with Bryan Buluga (Iowa) staying true to finding a good (and healthy) OT.
Jay: I hate to say it Rob, but you nailed it. If the draft goes like I think it will, at pick 5 both DT’s will be gone. The Chiefs have a huge hole at OT. I think the Bills may trade up for a QB but not for an OT. The talent at OT this year is deep and at pick 9 the Bills could still get Bryan Buluga or Anthony Davis. If the Chiefs trade down and fall somewhere around 9-12 they will still be able to get a very good OT with compensation somewhere else. Like I said earlier, we are not predicting trades, we are predicting picks, so with the 5th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, I got the Chiefs picking OT Russell Okung from Oklahoma State. Unlike Rob, I have Okung rated as my number 1 offensive lineman in the 2010 draft class. He is a monster with long arms. He is also very durable, shown by 34 consecutive starts. His footwork is great as well, which is very important for an offensive lineman. The Chiefs need a franchise OT to protect Matt Cassel and they get it in Okung.
