Jay: This is a tough team to pick for. If both DT’s are gone (Suh and McCoy), which they should be, then I think the Bucs trade down. (They would be ecstatic if either DT falls to them, considering they only amassed 28 sacks last year which ranked them 26^th in the NFL) But since we can’t predict trades, I’m going to select S Eric Berry from the University of Tennessee. (I can’t wait for the hate mail after this pick) I know you don’t take safeties in the top 5 picks of the NFL Draft but Tampa needs some serious help in the secondary. If Berry turns out to be Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu, then looking back 5 or 6 years from now the Bucs made a great choice. Having a great safety helps out a lot. They can cover up a lot of mistakes that other players on the defense make. Berry is great in coverage but he also plays the run very well. Last year he played in a NFL style defense (Monte Kiffin was a long time defensive coordinator in the NFL) which will help him out a lot down the road.

FWG: On the clock and making moves, this one is a no brainer for me or (should be) for them.  They take Eric Berry, in spite of, not because of his Tennessee credentials.  Athletic and big, he might be the thinking-man’s favorite for the 2010 NFL Draft.  Since I am just that, he’s my recommendation for Tampa in our 2010 NFL Mock Draft.  If this young man was able to navigate his final college days under Kiffin and still come out on top, he’s definitely got a head on his (very broad, very fast) shoulders.
