FWG: You know, I said that the Lions should take Jimmy Clausen in the 2010 NFL Draft and Jay laughed in my face. He said “The Lions drafted a Matthew Stafford in the 2009 NFL Draft” and then I started thinking, sure that logic might make sense for the other 31 teams, but not for the Lions. Nope, not them. Dan Orlovsky or Calvin Johnson, it simply doesn’t matter. So my real pick would probably be Gerald McCoy, because Suh will be gone by then, and he fills a need at DT, but at this point does it really matter? If it were up to me I’d say draft a prescription for Paxil or Prozac and dispense it freely at Ford Field.
Jay: I hate to do this but yes, I am selecting another defensive tackle. Right now most of you are probably wondering if the world is going to come to an end because the first 2 picks in the NFL draft are defensive lineman. I am here to reassure you that it will be okay. Both defensive linemen are extremely talented. The Lions are picking in the easiest spot in the entire draft. If Suh is taken first, Gerald McCoy is a must have at pick 2 and if for some reason the Rams take a QB first, then drafting Suh is a no brainer. So with the second pick in the 2010 NFL draft, I have the Lions selecting DT Gerald McCoy from Oklahoma. For being a 300-pounder, McCoy is extremely athletic. Like Suh, he has a great combination of size and strength. He also has the ability to chase down running backs from behind. Getting a player like this with the 2nd pick in the 2010 NFL draft is a nice luxury for the Detroit Lions.
