I worked as an athletic trainer for an open tryout that the Locos held in LA a few weeks ago. I talked to Jim Fassel for about an hour about the league. He told me they are expanding 3 more teams next year and the league wants a solid 12 teams with in the next 5 years. They do not want to be considered a "minor league" to the NFL or have any plans of competing with the NFL for fans, they just want to be "the other" league. This is why they are trying to start teams in non-NFL markets" i.e. Vegas, Omaha, Sacramento, Hartford, etc... The league looks like it has its foot in the door for becoming a solid second option to the NFL and with a possible lock out in 2011 they could receive more fans by default.
I hope more players who realize they do not have a place on an NFL roster option to play in the UFL.

Fitz,
Your email portrays you as a 'not to disimilar' political 'wing-nut'...ie...listen to my (near) totally uninformed rant, while avoiding any alternative model. If not the combine....then what?. As long as cliches were offered as an easy-to-read lead, here's one for ya....' I can never get back the time I wasted, reading your dribble. When you can offer something better than ...look at me in my sisters shiny shorts...do get back.

First off, I run track, not tack Will, nor do I run marathons like Ryan Hall pictured above. Now Jay, saying that all 32 teams send people because it matters is a cop-out. A team doesn't want to miss out on opportunities to view prospective players if a rival can, so of course they're going to send people. And what part about "...you may have noticed I didn’t mention all the tests." didn't you understand?

Comfort zone Will? These kids play in-front of the largest groups of people in the country, it's hard to believe that a few scouts can put enough pressure on a kid that he runs a bad 40 time. And what's this set variable? A bunch of guys holding stop watches going on the players' movement? Green sleeve anyone? I can't believe that will all the money the NFL has, they can't be bothered to use electronic timing. Will, you may think that I or other runners don't have the mental capacity for big words, but apparently you don't have the mental capacity to either remember what you just read or able to re-read something: I mentioned the lower-body explosive power of the jumps, but have you ever thought that how you land in the standing broad jump might effect the distance? That slightly reminds me of a track and field event or two, you might have heard of the long jump and triple jump?

So next time you two former football players try to attack me, which I have a feeling will be very soon, put some effort in. I mean, if you've read the NFL's Player Conduct Policy, then you should be able to read my email.

"not so fast, my friend"...on that Packer pick. You say that the OL issue is fine now that Clifton has been resigned. But in your mock, TT could have a look at Anthony David yet. And don't count out the thought of Brandon Graham. I think Dom Capers would be jumping up and down in the Packer War Room if he is still there at #23. The thought of Graham and Matthews at each OLB, gets me salavating! :)

Nice draft. I don't see Carlos Dunlap going as high as you have him, but very much like the rest of the draft. How about a second and third round? That's where this draft gets interesting.

I do not think Bryant will fall to 21 and so I do not think that is who they would take. I like Oderick going to Cincy or a TE, S, LB. There are plenty of other WR who will be available in later rounds. They might even take someone like Iupati if he were available.

I would agree with your picks for the Niners but if Williams is there at 13 they have to take him. They can't hope that he falls to 17 because he is more important in this draft over Haden. A 2nd rd. CB can be had that is not much of a dropoff from Haden. The same cannot be said about OT.

these guys needed to make a move for derek anderson. it doesnt really matter if you like him or not bills fans, this guy was the best available vet. starting qb on the market. mcnabb would never agree to go to buffalo (he doesnt have a no trade clause, but he would never agree to sign a long term contract and you dont give up a 1st round pick and then some for a one year player), delhomme is a walking calamity, and mike vick is not a qb. The draft is not the answer this year because in my opinion, bradford is the only guy who will be a solid starter from this bunch. the fact that jimmy clasen was in a drop back, pro style offense is just about the best thing going for him and mccoy couldnt remind me anymore of alex smith.

FWG knows that his team is not going to produce THIS season, way to many holes, but that doesnt mean the organization can sit on their hands. move up, grab bradford, and stop being the punchline of your division. This used to be the most dominant team in the acf/league and now the only thing worth seeing in buffalo is snow and wings. good luck bills fans, your gunna need it
