Spiller Named Starting RB For Buffalo Bills

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

bills-fanThe Bills have officially named C.J. Spiller as their starting running back. Spiller had an outstanding preseason, with a breakout, nay-sayer silencing performance against the Colts.  This is a no brainer for a Buffalo offense that has struggled to find an identity since 1996.  And by struggle to find an identity, I mean their last gasp for a playoff birth was the Music City Miracle.  There aren’t a lot of reasons to be glad you live in Buffalo, but C.J. Spiller is definitely one of them.

2009 All Bust Team:

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Here are a couple players who were drafted high in Fantasy last year, but instead of blowing up they shit right down their legs

QB

Matt Ryan: Looking at his year you might say that he played well. But this is fantasy football. He missed 2 starts so that helped keep his numbers down, but nevertheless, he did not make the leap we all expected last season, even with the addition of Tony Gonzalez. Michael Turner (get to him a little later) did miss some time, but this still should not have spiked his numbers like it did. I would expect Ryan to have a bounce back year.

Jay Cutler: He was sold for a king’s ransom on draft day and it looked like Josh McDaniels was dealing with a drinking problem for making the trade. But low and behold, at the end of the day the trade worked out for the Broncos. Cutler led the world in interceptions with 26, so that diminished his 27 TD’s. Cutler owners expected more out of the gun slinger, but looking at his weapons, he didn’t have the cast around him to help.

RB

Matt Forte: Average draft position was 4 and he by no means lived up to this hype. He is a main culprit for the struggling Cutler. Hampered by a subpar O-Line, Forte scored just 2 times in 33 goal-to-go situations. 2 times!!  He was also held to 2 TD’s on 19 attempts inside the 5-yd line. That is the worst percentage of the decade! This guy flopped big time after a big rookie year. He went from 12 total TD’s to just 4 in 2009. And oh yeah, did I mention he was drafted 4th overall in most drafts? Ahead of Chris Johnson, Ryan Grant, Ray Rice, Frank Gore … do I need to continue?

Steve Slaton: Another sophomore slump in the backfield. He really fell off the face of not only the fantasy world but also the NFL world. Slaton had a case of the fumbles and lost 5 of them. This guy was drafted as the 9th pick but performed to the tune of the 36th best back. He has now fallen to 2nd on the depth chart — 3rd until Brandon Tate was lost for the year. He lost 6 games last year, but that shouldn’t cause you to fall so far from grace.

Darren McFadden/Reggie Bush: I put them together because they are similar in every way. Both were world talents coming out of college. Both played in an offense were they split carries in college. Both were drafted in the top 5 and yet both can’t find themselves in the NFL. Bush still has not shown a consistent ability to perform and has been replaced by an undrafted free agent in Pierre Thomas for the Saints’ high flying offense. Meanwhile, McFadden has been given every opportunity to succeed for a horrible Raider team, but can’t stay on the field or hold onto the ball. These guys were both valued as top 25 backs but performed like top 50 backs. Never has there been more hype about two underperformers year after year. When will we all learn our lesson? It’s funny how Thomas Jones drops each year in average draft position but continues year after year to blow these two bums away.

WR

Terrell Owens: He saw his worst full season numbers since his rookie year with numbers like 55-829-5. Owens’ age definitely played a part in his lack of explosiveness but that can’t be the only reason. He seems to have developed a problem with catching the ball. Maybe if he had less reality TV going on he could finish out his career on a better note.

Dwayne Bowe: Drafted as the 14th best receiver, he played more like an undrafted free agent. His stat line for such a talent was atrocious, at 47-589-4. He did have an overrated QB playing with him, but his stats are way too bad to blame that.  Bowe found himself in the doghouse with Coach Haley for being overweight, and this caused for him to miss many needed reps with the 1st team offense. The talent this man has should allow for him to play through any issues, but it seems like he doesn’t have the right attitude for a star in the league.

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Chris Cooley TE (Washington): not only is this man one of the funniest players in the NFL, he is also one of the most underrated TE’s in the league. Early reports had him getting some of his production taken away from Fred Davis, but hold the phone. Due to the constant 2 TE sets in Shanahan’s offense and the good rapport with McNabb, look for Cooley to have his best year yet.

Matt Leinart QB (Arizona): the walking STD is going to get the start over the weekend against the Redskins. Don’t let his stats fool you. Against the Titans a couple weeks back they were laughing at him because he was “King Check Down”. How is it that the most talented team in the past decade of college football could produce so many flops?  I guess the pay really sucks in the NFL compared to what they got at USC

Michael Crabtree WR (San Francisco): ok, this is priceless. MC has a “diva clause” in his contract that requires him to take part in all mandatory functions and 90 percent of the voluntary offseason activities. I am not making this up. So when Vernon Davis almost knocked him out at practice the other day, let’s just say it was not frowned upon. Coach Singletary said he understood why Davis would want to knock him out for not playing in any games with a pulled vagina but would have liked to have seen it handled in a different manner. If MC would play nice with his fellow campers the sky is the limit, but for now I don’t know what will happen here. I am not saying don’t draft him; just don’t be surprised to see MC get off to a slow start because he is in the dog house

Jonathan Stewart RB (Carolina): Mr. Stewart is a game-time decision once again for tonight’s preseason finale. The bull to D-Will’s gazelle has not played all preseason. At first I was not worried, but now I am getting a little concerned. I loved both of these backs in this offense, especially Stewart, but now I would be a bigger fan of Deangelo Williams. Once Stewart gets healthy look for him to produce, but foot injuries on running backs can be very dicey.

Steve Smith WR (Carolina): he is not expected to play this week, but he will be a go for week 1. His stock is falling fast because of Matt Moore’s play and the sputtering offense, but I would buy him low and then reap the benefits. When this man is healthy, he’s an animal. Look for the offense to fall into place once the Mighty Mite returns week 1.

Vincent Jackson WR (San Diego): the Super Chargers are looking for two picks for his services. They would like a 2nd round pick this year and next. This is not a high demand, seeing that Brandon Marshall brought in a similar package.

40oz of Fantasy Presents: Mr. X-pert’s College Lock Pick

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Two reasons to LOVE College Football; 1. E-A-S-Y money to be made. 2. The College girls, because as you get older they stay the same age…

Thursday 9/2/2010.

Marshall @ Ohio St.

PICK—Marshall +28 1/2

Ohio St is overrated.  Pryor is overrated. The Big Ten is overrated. Vegas know everybody will be betting Ohio State.   They are going to have to score 4+ TD’s to cover.    Not going to happen.

 Saturday 9/4/2010.

Cincinnati @ Fresno St

PICK—Fresno St -3

You have to love the Bulldogs in this game.  Not too many teams make this type of travel in week 1.  If NFL teams can’t go across country and win, what would make you think a college team could.  Sorry Bearcats, the rebuilding begins early this year.

MR. X is 3-2 (NFL Preseason).

40oz of Fantasy Presents: Camp Report

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Larry Johnson RB (Washington): looks like LJ might have found a home. After a solid performance over the weekend LJ will be doing the caddying for Clinton Portis. Portis is already a little banged up and hasn’t played a full season in a while. Take LJ with a late pick and hope he doesn’t spit on any girls in DC.

Steve Slaton RB (Houston): have we ever seen a player rise and fall so fast? Two years ago he was the steal of the draft, last year he was the bust of the draft, and now he’s undraftable. Slaton arrived at practice on Monday wearing a boot. Slaton claims he will be ready for week 1, but I don’t know if a balls replacement surgery can be done by then.

Marshawn Lynch RB (Buffalo): looks like the ankle is fine and he’ll test it out on Thursday. Lynch probably feels a threat from 40oz favorite, C.J. Spiller. Even with a healthy Lynch, I would still imagine the explosive force that is Spiller would receive the majority of the carries. Monitor Lynch, but remember that the real value in the Buffalo backfield is Spiller.

Matt Leinart QB (Arizona): well it looks like Derek Anderson has won the battle. Leinart may now even have a difficult time making the team. Reports out of the desert indicate that Coach Whisenhunt would like to keep Max Hall and John Skelton rather than the high priced STD.  The worst thing to have on a team would be a whining back up QB who would ruin the chemistry of the team if Derek Anderson struggles.

Owen Daniels TE (Houston): he was taken off the PUP list and looks ready for the start of the season. He may not be as explosive after the knee injury, but Daniels will remain one of the top targets in the high powered Texans’ offense. This spells good news for Andre Johnson in the form of less triple teams and more one on one opportunities.

Josh Freeman QB (Tampa Bay): looks like the young stud is going to be ready for week 1. Coach Morris said  he is ahead of schedule for his rehab and should be ready for week one. This is great news for all you out there targeting Tampa players. The real question is WHY would you target a Tampa player?!?

Vision Automotive Group Presents: CJ Spiller GONE WILD

Monday, August 30th, 2010

C.J. Spiller was on display and the man continued his excellent run at becoming THE MAN in Buffalo. Spiller scored the go ahead TD with a 20 yd scamper, to give what looked like a vanilla offense some much needed flavor.  Buffalo’s 1st round pick finished the day with 12 attempts for 52 and 2 scores. He also added in 2 catches for 33 yds. Spiller was not the only Bill playing like an All Pro. Trent Edwards hushed his critics with an excellent performance by completing 13 of 17 for 153 yds and a TD to receiver Roscoe Parrish. Parrish showed seemed to be his main target compiling 4 grabs for 56 yds. The Bills are showing life in what was once an anemic offense and maybe, just maybe, showing that they’ll be a tough play week in and week out. CJ is bringing back the energy to Ralph Wilson Stadium every time he touches the ball. Spiller is reminding people in Buffalo of a young Thurman Thomas with his versatility and the break out speed of O.J. (driving in his Bronco of course).Carson Palmer was sharp in what might be his last action until wk 1 with a 9 of 11 performance for 95 yds and 2 scores. With the newly anointed number 2 receiver in T.O. making 3 grabs for 35 yds. Never the less, the real story here is C.J., he is starting to write a legend for himself. These Bills may not win more than 6 games, but they will now play with style

40oz of Fantasy Presents: The Top 10 Fantasy Wide Receivers for 2010

Monday, August 30th, 2010

1. Andre Johnson- Andre 3000 is a beast (plus he just got P-A-I-D). Only WR worth a 1st round pick. Scored 20 plus Fantasy points last year 7 times.

2. Randy Moss-Getting older each year but he’s still getting double digit TD’s. Tom Brady is a year off surgery and Welker looks recovered, so things are looking good for the Reverend.  Only downside is that the Pats have a tough schedule.

3. Larry Fitzgerald- Earns this spot on talent alone. He has two terrible QBs and no Bolden to take away double teams. Even with all that, I still think he’ll get his catches and end up in the top 3 Fantasy WRs.

4. Reggie Wayne-With all the talent on the team, Reggie will still find a way to get 90 catches. He has been at the top of the fantasy list three of the last four years for overall points.

5. Calvin Johnson- Even though his numbers were not so great last year, it probably had to do more with the rookie QB and not so much Megatron. He should see less triple teams this year with Nate Burleson there. Lock up 10 TDS for this man. Plus, he’ll only get better as Stafford gains experience.

6. Miles Austin-will Kim Kardashin ruin him? Probably not going to happen with this guy. He’s been working way too hard to get this point, he isn’t going to let this ho slow him down.  Here I thought all that came out of Monmouth University were washed up, Guido, juice heads, but I was wrong.  They make stud WRs too.

7. Roddy White- Matt Ryan is in his 3rd year, which is good news and should open up things for Roddy and Michael Turner. Roddy is coming off a career year in TDs and I expect to see a career year in catches with a healthy Matt Ryan and Michael Turner.   This offense will be one of the better ones in the league.

8. Desean Jackson- Desean “BIG PLAY” Jackson should continue his dominance in the NFC East while terrorizing their shitty corners. He is a little lower on the list because Kolb is new but holy shit my mother could just bomb it and let Desean do the rest.

9. Brandon Marshall-Loves the ball and he should see a ton of it this year. He’s in a new place, with a new QB, and new wildcat offense, but I still think he’ll produce his normal Brandon Marshall numbers.  He made Kyle Orton look good so I’m sure he can make another hick like Henne look good too.

10. Marques Colston – Fantasy football is about consistency and with only two 100+ yard games last year, Marques did not exactly give you that.  Drew Brees throws him the football and he is pretty much guaranteed to have at least a low end WR1 season.
